FAQs

If you have a question not listed below and you're looking for an answer please contact us at info@plea.bc.ca.

Here are some of the frequently asked questions and answers some of our staff members receive on a regular bases:

Q. How do I make a referral?

A. Our services differ significantly in various program areas and so do referral procedures.  On this site, go to the program you are interested in and contact the Manager or contact person listed for that program.

Q. Is there a cost for counselling services?

A. No.  This is a free service.  PLEA counselling services are contracted through the Ministry of Children and Family Development.  To access the service, you will need to speak to an intake social worker in your area where this service is available and they will make an online referral to the program.  (Tri Cities and Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge)

Q. What does PLEA stand for?

A. PLEA was an acronym for Pacific Legal Education Association.  This was the name of the sponsoring non-profit that participated in our first contract to deliver Youth Justice Services in Vancouver in 1983.  "PLEA" and its philosophy of providing individualized one-to-one services quickly became well known for success with young people and programs expanded significantly.  Because legal education was no longer part of what the society provided, but the PLEA name was so well regarded, the acronym was dropped in 2005 and the legal name of the society was changed to PLEA Community Services Society of BC.
